Citation:

Naik Sispal Singh was the Platoon Havildar of4 Platoon of 'B' Company assigned to lead an attack on point known as Rohtak picquet on 9 April 1948. During the very initial stages of the battle, he was hit by an enemy bullet. But he refused to be evacuated and carried on the attack inspiring his men to advance with greater determination and grit. Two of his men including a Section Commander were wounded by the enemy, which was heavily firing at his platoon with machine guns. He wrapped bandage around their wounds. While attending to his Section Commander, Naik Sispal Singh was again wounded, this time seriously. He again refused to be evacuated and kept shouting, "Hey Jats, the hill top is very near. Hurry up. Let me see you up there before I die". His platoon was able to capture the objective but it lost the magnificent platoon havildar soon after he was evacuated owing to heavy bleeding.YoungNaikSispa1 Singh's bravery and selfless devotion to duty are beyond praise. 

His great deed will always be remembered by the Battalion and will continue to serve as a great example to all the junior leaders.
