Citation:

2nd Lieutenant Chander Pal, a troop leader, was given the task of assaulting a well fortified position in the Eastern Sector. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he put his tank right in the front and charged through the minefield. When 20 yards short of the bunker complex, his tank was hit by a recoilless gun as a result of which he was seriously injured. Undeterred he got down from the tank and rushed on to the bunker, on the top of which he collapsed. In this action, 2nd Lieutenant Chander Pal displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty of a high order.
