What is Happening

A meeting of the War Decorated Trust was held on Thursday at Chandigarh. The following Trustees were present:

  • Brig Sant Singh, MVC** (in the Chair)
  • Brig NS Sandhu, MVC
  • Brig KS Chandpuri, MVC, VSM
  • Capt Reet MP Singh, VrC

Discussion centered around passing the audited accounts for the year 2012-2013 and the Scholarship Scheme of the Trust.

Date of Award: 14 Mar 1948

On 25 February 1948, Havildar Chandri Chand was in command of a platoon, which was part of a force ordered to capture Dhindheka village. He rushed up with his men and charged the enemy. In the melee, he saw one of his light machine gunner lying wounded unable to move. He charged up personally and bayoneting two enemy soldiers, recovered both-the wounded men and the weapon. 

On 14 March 1948, advancing towards Jhangar Havildar Chandri Chand was in command of a platoon, which had been ordered to capture an objective. He came under heavy enemy fire, which threatened to check his advance. With a few men with him, he worked his way to the enemy from a flank and charged the enemy with such fury that the enemy had to withdraw.

In both actions, Havildar Chandri Chand displayed supreme cold courage and was a fine example to his men.
