What is Happening

A meeting of the War Decorated Trust was held on Thursday at Chandigarh. The following Trustees were present:

  • Brig Sant Singh, MVC** (in the Chair)
  • Brig NS Sandhu, MVC
  • Brig KS Chandpuri, MVC, VSM
  • Capt Reet MP Singh, VrC

Discussion centered around passing the audited accounts for the year 2012-2013 and the Scholarship Scheme of the Trust.

On 15 December 1948 at Chhawa Ridge in the Naushera Sector, Captain D.D. Mistry was the observation officer of the forward most picquet the hostiles relentlessly shelled his position using every type of artillery from 3.7 howitzer to 5.5 inch mortar guns.

In spite of this murderous fire, Captain Mistry stuck to his post and pinpointed the hostile guns and tanks in that sector, till a 75 mm shell hit his position killing him instantaneously He was also able to confirm the presence of enemy Sherman tanks.

By day and night this gallant officer continued to be the watchdog of the picquet. His personal courage, unparalleled gallantry and devotion to duty with utter disregard for personal safety were a source of inspiration to all ranks in the picquet and worthy of the highest praise.
