Citation:

Havildar Amar Singh was ordered to intercept an enemy patrol, which had intruded into our territory in the vicinity of a forward defended locality in Jammu and Kashmir. Against heavy odds, he led the patrol and while he was within 150 yards of the enemy patrol he engaged them with a light machine gun and 2-inch mortar killing three of the enemy. The enemy also engaged his patrol with medium machine gun and artillery fire. He extricated his patrol with great courage and calmness after dislodging the enemy, which had entered our territory. Although he was hit by an enemy MMG burst on his left arm and left leg, he continued to lead the patrol with courage and dash regardless of his injury. Later it was discovered that he had six bullet injuries in his arm and leg. 

In this action, Havildar Amar Singh displayed gallantry and leadership of a high order.
