Citation:

Major Baldev Raj Bhola, who was commanding a company of a battalion of Dogra Regiment, was ordered to assault a well fortified enemy position in the Eastern Sector.

During the advance, the company came under heavy and effective fire of enemy artillery and heavy machine gun. Under the inspiring leadership of Major Bhola, the company continued advancing against heavy odds. Major Bhola got injured but continued undeterred. As he neared the objective heavy machine gun fire made it impossible for the company to advance any further. By quick appreciation Major Bhola decided to silence it. He rushed to the machine gun post, lobbed two grenades and silenced it. In the process he was hit by enemy fire as a result of hich he died. 

In this action, Major Baldev Rai Bhola displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty of  high order.
