Lakhman Kumar Chakrabarty, Mechanician Third Class, was a member of the crew of an Indian naval ship, which attacked Karachi on the night of 4/5 December 1971. In the face of imminent air attack, and in the presence of enemy shore gun batteries, Lakhman Kumar Chakrabarty led his men into the attack with utmost courage. His brave and inspiring leadership of the men working under him enabled the naval units to deliver a severe blow to the Pakistani surface fleet.
In this action, Lakhman Kumar Chakrabarty displayed commendable courage and leadership.
