What is Happening

A meeting of the War Decorated Trust was held on Thursday at Chandigarh. The following Trustees were present:

  • Brig Sant Singh, MVC** (in the Chair)

  • Brig KS Chandpuri, MVC, VSM
  • Capt Reet MP Singh, VrC

Discussion centered around passing the audited accounts for the year 2012-2013 and the Scholarship Scheme of the Trust.

Second Lieutenant Amar Singh Khattrl was officiating commander of a company of a Kumaon Battalion, which launched a counter-attack against well-sited and dug In Chinese defence positions on Yellow Pimple In NEFA on 14 November 1962 Under his courageous leadership and personal example, the company continued to make slow but steady advance against very heavy opposition Lieutenant Khattri personally led his men to spur them on, contmually exposing himself to enemy fire.

On 15 November 1962, the enemy launched a fierce counter-attack and almost over ran his company. Though heavily outnumbered, he quickly rallied his men and tried to hold the Chinese attack. Even when he pulled back, he did so very slowly, fighting for every inch of the ground. In the face of very heavy odds, he delayed the enemy advance for over three hours. Finally he halted the enemy less than a hundred yards below Tri-junction Hill, but was wounded by a grenade thrown from about 15 yards. 

Throughout this action, Second Lieutenant Khattri showed courage and leadership of a very high order.
