Citation:

On 1 September 1965, a company proceeding to Sonemarg was ambushed by enemy infiltrators. Naib Subedar Dambar Bahadur Khattri, the leading platoon commander, was ordered to capture a hill occupied by them. He captured the feature after an assault. Finding that the enemy infiltrators were withdrawing he chased them. Thereafter a close-quarter battle developed with the retreating enemy disregarding his own safety, Naib Subedar Khattri closed in on an enemy LMG, shot the gunner dead and recovered the LMG. He also killed several other infiltrators.

In this action, Naib Subedar Dambar Bahadur Khattri displayed exemplary courage and determination in the best traditions of the Army.
