Citation:

Rifleman Dalip Singh Thapa of a battalion of the Gorkha Rifles was manning a light machine gun on the east bank of Munnawar Tawi in the Western Sector. On the night of 8 December 1971, the enemy attacked his company position under cover of intense artillery fire. Rifleman Dalip Singh Thapa opened up fire with his light machine gun inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy. His trench was destroyed and he himself was severely wounded by a direct hit by an enemy shell, but undeterred he crawled out of his trench and continued manning the gun till he succumbed to his injuries. In this action, Rifleman Dalip Singh Thapa displayed gallantry of a high order.
