Citation:
During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Naik Bal Bahadur was commanding a detachment of an air defence battery deployed in an area in the Western Sector. On 7 December, during an enemy air raid, he directed the fire of his gun in an accurate manner and shot down an enemy MIG 19 aircraft.

In this action, Naik Bal Bahadur displayed gallantry, determination and professional skill of a high order.
