Citation:

On 4 December 1971, Assistant Commandant Lalthawama Lushai led a company attack on an enemy position in the Eastern Sector. He carried out a river crossing and long encircling movement at night and took the enemy completely by surprise, and ran over the position, inflicting heavy casualties. On 10 December he again carried out a wide outflanking move around another enemy position and established a roadblock. He carried out this move expeditiously in spite of enemy resistance at 4 points and captured eight enemy personnel. Again, on 14 December, he executed another outflanking move and helped in the capture of the objective.

In all these actions, Assistant Commandant Lalthawama Lushai displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty.
