Citation:

Lieutenant Colonel N. G. O'Connor, commanding a battalion of Border Security Force, was given the task of capturing a well fortified enemy post during the operations in the Eastern Sector. He planned and executed the operations with competence and was in the forefront during the attack encouraging his men to engage the enemy and capture the objective. He personally directed the artillery fire. Under his inspiring leadership, the objective was captured and the enemy was compelled to retreat, leaving behind casualties and large quantities of arms and ammunition.

Lieutenant Colonel O'Connor displayed gallantry, determination and leadership of a high order.
