Naib Subedar Ram Kala Singh along with five other ranks was a party in a battalion which attacked an enemy position in the Eastern Sector. The party came under accurate crossfire of automatic weapons, wherein one officer was mortally wounded while the rest of he party was pinned down. Naib Subedar Ram Kala Singh, with complete disregard for his personal safety, crawled up to the enemy machine gun bunker and lobbed a grenade through the slit. While doing so, a machine gun burst from the bunker blew off three of his fingers. Undeterred, he closed in on the enemy and bayoneted many enemy soldiers in hand-to-hand fight.

In this action, Naib Subedar Ram Kala Singh displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
