Brigadier Joginder Singh Bakshi was commanding a mountain brigade during the operations against Pakistan on the Eastern Front. Between 7 and 16 December 1971, the brigade under his leadership launched a series of successful attacks and captured a number of well-prepared enemy localities, culminating in the capture of Bogra.
