Awardee: Nb Sub Wilson Mangan Anthony, VrC

Gazette Notification: 37Pres/88 , 15-4-88
Operation: Op Savage (Sikkim)
Date of Award: 15 Apr 1988

Wilson Mangan Anthony of C Company was the RCL Detachment Commander during the action at Chunnakam (Jaffna) on 12 October 1987. During the action, Havildar Anthony suffered bullet injuries. The Company Commander wanted to evacuate the non-commissioned officer to field ambulance, but despite serious injuries, he refused to be evacuated, as the company was under heavy fire and had no reserve. Havildar Wilson Mangan Anthony, after having suffered serious injuries, kept engaging and destroying enemy automatic weapon bunkers with his RCL gun. This finally helped to restore the situation and ensure the capture of chunnakam (Jaffna).

With total disregard of his personal safety to life and by refusing evacuation to Field Ambulance despite serious injuries, Havildar Anthony set a shining example of gallantry.
