Citation:

Major Ravinder Kumar Arora was commanding a company of Sikh Light Infantry in the Rajasthan Sector. On 15 December 1971, he was given the task of capturing an enemy stronghold. Despite heavy enemy small arms and artillery fire, he led his men with courage and inspired them to capture the objective. Next he attacked a neighbouring enemy locality but was held up by the heavy volume of enemy small arms and artillery fire. With two of his platoons he charged the enemy locality and though seriously wounded led his troops across the minefield under intense enemy fire and, closing in with the enemy, captured the objective after bitter fighting. 

Throughout this operation, Major Arora displayed gallantry, determination and leadership of a high order.
