Citation:

During the attack on a feature, Lance Havildar Jai Singh Bisht was commanding the leading section of his platoon when his section was held up 20 yards short of the objective by heavy enemy automatic fire and grenades. This NCO kept on engaging the enemy with grenades and directed his Bren gun on enemy strongholds. One enemy grenade landed in the middle of his second position where his company commander was reorganising his company. L/Havildar Bisht with great presence of mind and utter disregard of himself saved the life of his company commander and his comrades.

During the enemy counter-attack this Non-Commissioned officer went on inspiring the men by saying “Whatever happens, do not forget, Garhwalis never go back”
