Citation:
On 11 September 1967, Captain Prithvi Singh Dagar was engaged in strengthening the wire opposite the South Shoulder at Nathu La. Soon after work started, the Chinese had a scuffle with his party, but undaunted Captain Dagar continued his work. The Chinese opened fire and he was hit in the right hand. Despite his wound, and in the face of MMG fire, he picked up the rifle of a dead comrade and killed two Chinese soldiers. But the Chinese MMG could no be silenced. Finding no other alternative, he leap forward and assaulted the MMG position and in this action laid down his life. 

Captain Dagar displayed exemplary courage and leadership of a high order.
