What is Happening

Citation:
Sepoy Nursing Assistant Dharampal Singh Dahiya was attached to a company of Kumaon Regiment deployed at Rezangla in Ladakh. On 18 November 1962, the Chinese attacked the company post in large numbers, supported by overwhelming firepower. There were serious casualties in the forward trenches, which could not be evacuated and required immediate first-aid and medical attention. Nursing Assistant Dahiya went forward under a hail of enemy fire and attended to the wounded. While dressing the wounds of a seriously wounded soldier, he was hit repeatedly and killed on the spot. His body was found later in the actual posture of dressing the wounds of his comrade.

In this action Sepoy Nursing Assistant Dahiya displayed great courage and exemplary devotion to duty.
