Citation:

On 14 September 1965, when the enemy attacked a company group of Gorkha Rifles at Rasulpur in the Sialkot Sector, Naik Debi Bahadur Gurung, who was controlling the 3-inch mortars at the post, brought down steady and accurate fire on the advancing enemy When he ran out of mortar ammunition, he took up his sten gun and joined the ranks of the rifle company and kept on firing at the assaulting enemy until he fell at his post. The enemy withdrew, having suffered heavy casualties.

The courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty displayed by Naik Debi Bahadur Gurung were of a very high order in keeping with the best traditions of the Army
