Citation:

On 20 April 1948, a company of Royal Garhwal Rifles was ordered to capture a feature in J&K Subedar G.S. Gusain was in command of the leading platoon. The enemy was on high ground and opened up with heavy SA fire. Subedar Gusain crawled back about 100 yards and after making a big detour attacked the enemy from the left. He led the charge with great dash and determination. The enemy could not stand this unexpected attack and ran leaving behind a few dead.

On 18 May while attaclung Trahgam ridge, Sub G.S. Gusain was in command of the second platoon with the first platoon pinned to the ground. He led the attack from the right flank and was successful in capturing the feature. On 27 August, Subedar Gusain's platoon captured three prisoners. two of whom died of wounds later.

Subedar Gusain displayed determination and resourcef~ilncssu nder most difficult conditions.
