Citation:
On 11 November 1948 Jemadar Hans Raj led an attack on two enemy positions in the Riasi area. The enemy fire was intense. This gallant VCO, without regard for his personal safety and in spite of enemy fire being mainly directed at him, successfully charged the enemy and captured both the positions one after the other. After the capture of the second position, he was hit by an LMG burst from a different direction and died.

During the whole action he showed great gallantry and extreme devotion to duty.
