Lance Naik Harbhajan Singh was the commander of the leading section of his company which was given the task of closing the defences occupied by the enemy in the Eastern Sector. His company came under intense and accurate small arms fire when it was only 300 yards short of enemy-held positions. Handling the light machine gun himself, he was moving forward when he was hit by a burst from an enemy machine gun. But he continued to crawl forward when he was hit by another burst. Still undeterred, he continued to crawl forward and taking up a suitable position destroyed the enemy pillbox. Unmindful of his injuries, he deployed his section in defence and ensured that his men had dug in completely.

In this action, Lance Naik Harbhajan Singh displayed gallantry, Leadership and determination of a high order.
