Citation:

On 6 July 1999, Major K. P R. Hari was tasked to attack "Jubar Top", an enemy stronghold at a height of 16,800 feet in Batalik Sector of Jammu & Kashmir. He launched a two pronged attackunder heavy enemy artillery and small arms fire. He crawled through the boulders over a steep cliff leading towards Jubar Top in order to avoid the enemy fire. He, along with six men, reached 50 metres short of the enemy sangar and in a swift and bold manoeuver closed in with the enemy, continuously firing and lobbing grenades. With utter disregard for his personal safety, Major Hari destroyed the enemy heavy machine gun sangar and killed two enemy soldiers who were engaging the advancing troops. Sensing immediate capture, the enemy withdrew leaving behind huge quantity of arms, ammunition and equipment and the post was captured at 0500 hours without any casualty on our side. Major Hari, along with another officer, kept the momentum of the attack and captured Jaubar main by 1800 hours. 

Major K. P R. Hari displayed initiative, bold action, indomitable courage, strong determination and exceptional leadership in the face of extreme danger from the enemy.
