Citation:

On 3 July 1948 at Gumri in J&K State, Sepoy Hazura Singh was doing LMG No. 1 duty in a section outpost. The enemy put in a two-company attack supported by mortars and MMGs and managed to reach within 200 yards of the outpost. Although head covers and stone "sangars" had collapsed because of enemy mortar fire, he fired his weapon with extreme accuracy, causing all serious losses to the enemy He thus became the Chief target for all enemy weapons. Though wounded in the left shoulder, he kept on using his weapon with deadly effect. The enemy, unable to over-run this outpost, tried a small detour. On his own initiative, Hazura Singh crawled some 15 yards to a new advantageous position but was hit again in his leg and thigh. Although feeling feeble from profuse bleeding, he kept on engaging the enemy with great skill and accuracy, halting the new enemy move. He was caught by an MMG burst in the head, which killed him instantaneously. In making the supreme sacrifice, Sepoy Hazura Singh, by his outstanding courage and skill at arms, caused heavy losses to the enemy, definitely breaking the tempo of the enemy attack.
