Havildar Ishwar Singh was given the job of forward observation officer in support of different battalions of 50 Para Brigade in the battle in Jhangar. While it was raining very heavily, he supported the attack of 3 Rajput with the greatest efficiency under very tiring conditions and the objective was captured. On 13 March 1948, it was still raining and observation was very difficult. Still Havildar Ishwar Singh did his duty extremely well. All this time he was under heavy enemy fire. On 15 March, the enemy opened with automatics from the area of Pir Thil feature. Havildar Ishwar Singh, knowing his life was in danger, engaged the enemy LMGs and MMGs and silenced them. On 17 March, after the attack on the feature, he engaged the fleeing enemy very successfully. On 18 March, during the advance to Jhangar Dharamshala, Havildar Ishwar Singh again very successfully engaged the enemy and neutralised his fire.

Throughout the operation, Havildar Ishwar Singh showed extraordinary stamina and acted very bravely. He did his duty extremely well under heavy odds with complete disregard for his personal safety and set an example to others
