Citation:

On the night of 19 November 1948, Captain Jagdish Singh was commanding a company, which was to capture a strongly defended hill feature. The enemy was covering almost all approaches. The hostiles opened fire as soon as the advance platoon of Captain Jagdish Singh approached the locality. Though under heavy fire, Captain Jagdish Singh quickly realised that enemy weapons were so sited that they could not fire on the southern slope. By tactical manoeuvring he charged the enemy from another direction. The hostiles thus suffered heavy casualties. 

He then resumed his advance to capture the objective. The enemy maintained his position, but our artillery had created a gap in the enemy position by hitting an LMG post and Captain Jagdish Singh took the objective.

Throughout this action, Captain Jagdish Singh showed outstanding leadership, personal courage and gallantry, marked presence of mind and cool determination.
