Citation:

On 31 December 1962, a company of 4th Rajputana Rifles was given the task of advancing along the Elizabethville-Jadotville road in the Congo. Rifleman Jethoo Singh's platoon was leading when it came under heavy and sustained mortar, medium machine gun and small arms fire from three directions. On his right, an enemy light machine gun post also opened fire.

Rifleman Jethoo Singh, along with another rifleman, charged the enemy post. The second rifleman got a direct burst in the chest and died instantaneously. Rifleman Jethoo Singh then rushed forward alone to silence the enemy light machine gun post. As he was about 20 yards from the post, he was mortally wounded but before he died he threw a hand grenade on the gun post killed two of the enemy and silenced it.

During this action Rifleman Jethoo Singh displayed courage and devotion to duty of a high order.
