Citation:

Lance Havildar Joginder Singh of the Sikh Regiment was escorting a small convoy of three jeeps carrying important stores for a forward post in Phake in Naga Hills. As the leading jeep in which he was sitting, armed with a Sten gun, was negotiating a bend on the road, hostiles suddenly opened light machine gun fire from a hillock nearby. Though injured in the right leg, Lance Havildar Joginder Singh, leaving his jeep, ran forward to attack the hostiles. He was wounded again in the right shoulder, but he continued his charge undeterred, followed by six other members of his party.

When Lance Havildar Joginder Singh was about 25 yards from the hostiles, a light machine gun burst hit him in his stomach and fell down. Despite his wounds, he continued to crawl forward and threw two grenades on the hostile post and silenced it. Unmindful of his wounds, he continued to inspire his men to advance who pressed forward and captured the objective. A few moments later he died. Inspired by his gallant leadership, Lance Havildar Joginder Singh's men were able to remove the roadblock, which enabled the movement of much needed stores to reach the forward company in time.
