Citation:

Havildar Shankar Datt Joshi was commanding a platoon which was ordered to clear an enemy position on the Eastern Sector. Under his able leadership the platoon established a foothold. The enemy brought heavy MMG fire on the platoon in a bid to dislodge them. Havildar Joshi rushed to the gun bunker and damaged it. This bold action drew the fire of other bunkers in the vicinity. He kept rushing to the bunkers till he collapsed riddled with bullets and died on the spot.

In this action, Havildar Shankar Datt Joshi displayed gallantry, determination and devotion to duty of a high order.
