Citation:

Lieutenant Colonel Satinder Kumar Kapoor was commanding a battalion of 9th Gorkha Rifles in the Western Sector. On the night of 5 December 1971, he was given the task of capturing a heavily defended enemy position. Lieutenant Colonel Kapoor went with the leading troops to guide and encourage them in overcoming the stiff opposition. His presence with the troops had an inspiring effect on his command which enabled his battalion to capture the objective in spite of heavy resistance by the enemy.

In this action, Lieutenant Colonel Kapoor displayed gallantry, determination and leadership of a high order.
