Citation:

On 14 April 1948, Naik. Kishan Chand was detailed to accompany a party assigned the task of advancing towards the north of Jhelum in J&K. This was essential to neutralise the effect of enemy patrols which were becoming a hindrance to our main body, planning to launch a surprise attack on the enemy.

Naik Kishan Chand along with the section was to cross a bridge, which was under heavy enemy fire. As soon as his section started crossing the bridge in pitch dark, the enemy started firing. However, Naik Kishan Chand was able to find out the enemy position. Thereafter, he diverted his section in such a manner as helped the main body to launch an attack.
