Citation:

On 16 September 1965, Major Adarsh Kumar Kochhar was battery commander affiliated to a task force, which was ordered to capture Jassoran, Butur Deograndi and Tekri to establish a roadblock behind enemy positions in Chawinda. His skilful fire plan enabled the task force to capture Jassoran. During the action the officer commanding of a Gorkha Rifles battalion was mortally wounded. Disregarding his own safety, Major Kochhar rushed into the enemy artillery barrage to evacuate the officer. Thereafter guiding the remnants of the battalion, he succeeded in capturing Butur Deograndi. Subsequently, several counterattacks of the enemy were beaten back and the enemy's attempts to encircle our task force were failed by Major Kochhar's skilful use of his own artillery concentrations. When his column was ordered to withdraw, he brought back many casualties to safety disregarding enemy fire.

Throughout, Major Kochhar displayed courage and leadership of a high order.
