Citation:

Captain Lachhman Singh as the Forward Observation Officer on Jhangar front as part of 50 Para Brigade. He directed accurate and timely artillery fire on enemy positions under most trying conditions. On 15th March, he was responsible for extricating a company of 3 MLI, which had been pinned down by the enemy with automatic weapons and mortars. He continued to engage the enemy for eight hours from more or less an open position. Without caring for his personal safety and continuously exposing himself to enemy sniper and mortar fire, he was successful in extricating the Company and saving precious lives. Again on 16th March, during the battle of Thil, the decisive battle for Jhangar, he successfully engaged enemy positions and supported 3 Maratha Light Infantry on to their objective.

Captain Lachhman Singh showed calmness and courage in the discharge of his duties and distinguished himself in all the important battles in and around Naushera.
