Citation:

On 6 February 1948, our picquet at Tain Dhar near Naushera was subjected to heavy rifle, LMG and grenade fire. The forward Bren gun post held by Lance Naik Lakhpat was the main target. Lance Naik Lakhpat went on throwing hand grenades on the enemy, in spite of being wounded in the arm, and accounted for many casualties. Later, he showed great gallantry by picking up a grenade thrown into his trench by the enemy to throw it back but unfortunately it blew up and killed him. By this gallant act he saved the lives of the other two men in his post. 

His self-sacrifice, bravery and devotion to duty were of the highest order.
