During the hostilities with Pakistan in December 1971, Squadron Leader Arya Bhushan Lamba was the flight commander of a fighter bomber squadron. On 4 December he led sorties on Risalwala and Chander airfields, blasting the dispersals. On 5 December, he destroyed a tank and tank transporter. The next day he destroyed enemy positions near Narowal. On7 December he struck twice: once on a troop concentration and later on guns and tank concentration. On 9 December, he blew up a bridge over Ichchogil Canal.
Throughout the operation, Squadron Leader Lamba displayed gallantry, leadership and professional skill of a high order.
