Citation:

Captain Kavil Adhikharkunneth Mohan was the Commander of an ambush party, which laid a successful ambush in Area Dmmantai in Sri Lanka on 10 October 1988. The militants were completely taken by surprise when they came into the ambush site. Captain Mohan killed 13 militants, wounded 2 and recovered 9 weapons, 3 walkie-talkie sets and a large quantity of ammunition. He captured cipher documents, which proved to be of immense value in deciphering the transmissions of the militants. 

Captain Kavil Adhikharkunneth Mohan displayed a rare sense of judgment, conspicuous courage and valour in action against the militants.
