Citation:

On 9 April 1948, while advancing towards Rajouri, Naik Pratap Singh was the leading section commander of a platoon, which had been ordered to capture a high feature near Chakli village. The platoon commander received a burst of LMG in his leg. Naik Pratap Singh at once placed himself in charge of the two leading sections and carried on. The enemy kept on firing and hurling grenades at this gallant band. But the determination of this brave soldier won the day. He rushed up throwing grenades at enemy bunkers until the objective was captured. The objective captured was a stepping stone to the capture of chingas.
