Citation:

On 23 July 1948, Subedar Prabhudhan Rana was officer commanding of a supply point in Kanzalwan. The enemy subjected it to the heavy machine gun fire and encircled two of our companies. Subedar Rana reorganised the defences of the area and, in spite of heavy enemy shelling, kept going from post to post encouraging his men and supplying them ammunition and rations till reinforcements arrived. The next night, he organised a party to carry ammunition to two of our companies. He waded through waist-deep ice-cold water over slippery boulders and, despite heavy enemy shelling, delivered the ammunition.

On the night of 25 July, when heavy enemy fire was being directed at our supply dump, he personally took up position behind an LMG and replied to the enemy fire. This had a very good effect on the morale of our men. Again on 26 and 29 July, he gallantly and cheerfully carried ammunition and rations to the forward troops through areas swept by heavy enemy fire.

But for his excellent work and high qualities of leadership, our attack would not have been such a success.
