Citation:

Major P.A. Rege was Commanding Officer of a post at Henkar in NEFA with about 100 men. On 24 October, about 500 Chinese soldiers attacked the post and our troops, though greatly outnumbered, fought back so tenaciously under the command of Major Rege that they repulsed four enemy attacks and inflicted heavy casualties on them. Ultimately after hand-to-hand fighting our troops had to withdraw. Major Rege and his men successfully blocked the advance of the enemy for a considerable period, thereby keeping the lines of communications for the garrison.

Throughout this operation Major Rege displayed courage and leadership of a high order.
