Havildar Richhpal Ram was the platoon commander during an attack when the enemy opened up from both flanks with MMG, LMG and rifle fire and as a result the company had to go to the ground momentarily. 

Realising the grave situation, Havildar Richhpal Ram took his platoon to encircle the enemy. With remarkable leadership, initiative and courage, he outflanked the enemy position and engaged and neutralised the enemy fire on the right flank. Then with one section giving covering fire to the rest of his company, he charged the enemy position and captured his objective.

The praiseworthy action of Havildar Richhpal Ram and his great devotion to duty during this engagement and determined effort to route the enemy under heavy and sweeping fire enabled his company to capture its objective.
