2nd Lieutenant Tamal Satyanrayan Roy was commanding a platoon which was given the task of a carving a vehicle lane through a minefield in front of a heavily guarded position in the Eastern Sector. The enemy brought down heavy artillery fire on his platoon while the breaching was being done. Leading his men with courage and with no regard for his safety, he continued with the work. While the platoon was halfway through, the enemy brought down effective small arms and medium machine gun fire on them. He charged through the minefield to the enemy post, neutralised it and captured one recoilless gun mounted on a jeep and one medium machine gun. He continued breaching the lane and completed the task in time.

In this action, 2nd Lieutenant Roy displayed gallantry, Leadership and devotion to a high order.
