What is Happening

A meeting of the War Decorated Trust was held on Thursday at Chandigarh. The following Trustees were present:

  • Brig Sant Singh, MVC** (in the Chair)

  • Brig KS Chandpuri, MVC, VSM
  • Capt Reet MP Singh, VrC

Discussion centered around passing the audited accounts for the year 2012-2013 and the Scholarship Scheme of the Trust.

During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Lieutenant Commander Jayanta Kumar Roy Choudhury was the commanding officer of an Indian Naval Unit. He was given the task of attacking enemy held ports in Bangladesh. Despite the shore defences and the danger from enemy aircraft, he carried out his mission with extreme devotion to duty and by his action disrupted all sea traffic in the port of Mongla. On 10 December, he was a member of the force which attacked Khulna. His ship came under very heavy enemy air and shore gun attacks and he was wounded but he continued his attack, which finally resulted in the capture of Khulna port.

Throughout, Lieutenant Commander Jayanta Kumar Roy Choudhury displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty of a high order.
