Citation:

On 7 July 1948, Sepoy Sansar Singh's Platoon was on a ridge. At about 4 p.m. the enemy put in an attack which was beaten back. In this Sepoy Sansar Singh did very good work. At 9-30 p.m. the enemy again attacked and managed to creep up within 60 yards of our forward position and took up a position just behind a crest from where it was difficult to dislodge him. Sepoy Sansar Singh, on his own initiative, left his position and doubled forward to a place underneath which the enemy was hiding. He threw grenades at them, thereby killing two of the enemy and wounding many more. His action completely unnerved the enemy who withdrew in disorder. However, while throwing his last grenade he was shot by an enemy MMG burst in the stomach and killed.

Sepoy Sansar Singh saved the life of many of his comrades and effectively routed the enemy. He displayed supreme qualities of personal bravery, in complete disregard of his personal safety, and very high devotion to duty. His conduct was an inspiration to others.
