Citation:

On the night of2 November 1965, a battalion of Sikh Regiment, in which Captain Sansar Singh was commanding a company, was ordered to clear a hill feature in the Mendhar Sector of Jammu and Kashmir, which had been encroached upon by Pakistani forces notwithstanding the cease-fire. The enemy was occupying strongly built bunkers flush with the ground. The enemy position had well-coordinated fire of a large number of small arms and Browning machine guns supported by rocket launchers, mortar and artillery. All approaches to the position were through extensive minefields and barbed wire obstacles. To get on to the objective, it was necessary to climb precipitous cliffs. Despite the arduos approach to the objective, the fortified enemy position and the formidable enemy opposition, Captain Sansar Singh led his Company, assault into the feature exhorting his men to attack.

Captain Sansar Singh displayed complete disregard of or his personal safety, inspiring leadership and great courage in capturing the objective.
