Citation:

During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Flight Lieutenant Chidambaram Sargangapani was a pilot in a fighter bomber squadron. He flew 13 operational missions against the enemy ground forces and destroyed eight tanks, two gun positions and one bunker in the face of heavy ground fire.

Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Sargangapani displayed gallantry, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order.
