Citation:

Sepoy Sanvan Singh was No. 2 of the forward bren gun section ofuA" Company of 1 Sikh deployed in TIithwal Section ofJ & K. On 13 October 1948, the Company was attacked by the enemy after a heavy concentration of supporting arms fire. Sepoy Sanvan Singh was supplying ammunition to his No. 1 bren gunner and also engaging the enemy with his rifle. During this engagement, his No. 1 bren gunner was hit by a bullet and killed. Sepoy Sanvan Singh took over the gun and kept it firing till the attack was beaten off However he along with many others of his platoon was wounded and the strength of the platoon had considerably decreased. Refusing to be evacuated he held on his position during another three attacks on the enemy and till the time he was hit by another bullet and died. 

Sepoy Sanvan Singh showed great devotion to duty and cool courage under the most trying conditions. It was due to his exemplary courage that eight determined attacks of the enemy were repulsed and the position was saved from being over-run.
