Citation:

On 20 October 1962, when the Chinese attacked in large number of a company post in the Dhola area Havildar Saudagar Singh was in a trench with two sepoys. In the action, he killed a number of Chinese and when his companions became casualties he continued to hold the position alone with cool courage. Three Chinese managed to close in on the trench. Havildar Saudagar Singh shot two of them, but then his rifle jammed. He rushed out of the trench, bayoneted the third Chinese and snatched his automatic rifle from him. With it, he inflicted more casualties on the enemy until the post, grossly outnumbered, was ordered to withdraw. 

In this action, Havildar Saudagar Singh displayed gallantry and devotion to duty of a high order.
