Citation:

On 10 December 1947, Havildar Sewa Singh was in command of a forward platoon during flanking move Chhamb. His own platoon was being heavily sniped at. He went to the foremost man of his platoon and carried out useful reconnaissance from a completely exposed position, showing utter disregard for his personal safety. Having located an enemy resistance point, without waiting for orders, he made up his mind to take the platoon by a dash. He personally led the platoon charge in the forward line and encouraged his men to blitz through. The men responded splendidly to his inspiring call and the enemy position was carried by bayonet after a fierce hand-to-hand battle. 

Havildar Sewa Singh displayed an outstanding will to win. His cheerful and inspiring leadership and gallant action set a fine example.
